Review of Sorghum Day in Romania
The Sorghum ID association, in collaboration with Forumul APPR, organized the first edition of the “Resilient Agriculture Day” on August 25. The event was dedicated to sustainable agriculture, with sorghum serving as a concrete example of a crop adapted to today’s environmental challenges.
The event brought together at least 100 participants, including farmers, technical experts, researchers, and representatives of agricultural companies.
The programme combined a round-table discussion with a guided tour of the demonstration platfoarm, creating a direct link between technical expertise, market perspectives, and field observations.
Discussions covered the entire sorghum development and value chain, from genetics and crop management to livestock feed applications, as well as market prospects and commercial opportunities.
Particular attention was paid to sorghum’s tolerance to drought and high temperatures, as well as its potential as a viable alternative for farms frequently affected by water shortages.
Participants also emphasized that agronomic resilience must go hand in hand with economic viability and stronger links between farmers, livestock producers, collectors, and processors.
Key results:
- 15 sorghum hybrids were presented and compared on the demonstration platform;
- The varieties were supplied by 5 seed companies: Advanta, Alfaseed, KWS, Lidea, and RAGT;
- The platform was sown on May 15, 2026, at a density of 220,000 seeds/ha;
- Approximately 260 mm of rainfall was recorded between sowing and the event.
